Oats + Coffee + Honey

I'm in between jobs, which means re-evaluating every life choice and binge watching a lot of shows. If you find yourself in a place of transition I wouldn't recommend Handmaid's Tale. It's too depressing and I feel like I have to bleach my brain. Queer Eye 2 is a solid binge.

This idle time, mild depression, and QE2 overload has me thinking about self-care and DIY projects that don't require trips to the store, which brings me to this combination of oats, coffee grounds, and raw honey. I like to call it Breakfast Mask and I think it is something J-Van would approve of.

BREAKFAST MASK

  • 2T rolled oats
  • 1T of coffee grounds from your morning coffee
  • 1-2T raw honey

Grind the oats in the mortal & pestle, add coffee & honey. You want to make a paste. Dab the paste on your face and let sit for 10-15min. Rinse. Moisturize with coconut oil*. 

For blending and mixing I recommend using a mortar & pestle mostly because it's fun but it's also something that every kitchen alchemist should have on hand. If you don't have one you can use a food processor. 

I feel like the coffee adds a nice exfoliating touch. I had a bunch of silicone on my hands after a window replacement in the Airstream and nothing to get it off with. I grabbed some grounds from the French Press to use as a scrub and my hands felt baby smooth afterward. Combined with the sweet powers of raw honey and the moisturizing properties of the oats my skin feels so soft. 

 *I don't like cooking with coconut oil but I love it for coffee & skin care.
